ABOUT

I offer consultancy and support in all areas of the natural sciences, in particular within biology. Although my own research is focused on the microbiome, my expertise extends to all area of biology and I have successfully  worked with medical doctors, veterinarians and engineers on everything from animal genetics to biotechnology. I have a PhD from DTU and currently work as an Associate Professor at DTU BioEngineering.

Eventually, this might be you:

"I am confident in the analysis, I understand it and I can write it in my paper."

STATISTICAL SUPPORT

You finally got that revolutionary data from your experiment or cohort, and you might even have a good idea on how to analyse it. Then you get stuck. You have to much data. You might even get a journal rejection due poor statistics. You try asking a colleague for help, but they might as well speak a different language.

This is where I come in. As both a trained a biologist and a good listener, I will understand the biology of your data as the very first thing. Next, I will use my experience from 60+ published papers to understand your scientific questions. Lastly, and only then, will I use my skills in data science to solve those questions.

Often, scientists feel uncomfortable with statistical tests because they are unsure if they can explain the results confidently. This is key, whether it be at a conference or to a PI. Here, my role is to provide both the confidence and the proper language for such an explanation.

BIOINFORMATICS

You designed your revolutionary study, and decided to include analysis of the metagenome or metatranscriptome or metaproteome or metataxonome. You might even have had a good idea about how to analyze it. Then you got stuck on how to do the bioinformatics. Or you where overwhelmed at the sheer size of the data: 10,000 ASVs? 100,000 genes?

This is where I come in. Apart from my experience in pure bioinformatics (including publishing my own software), I have extensive expertise, 60+ papers, in using multivariate statistics to make sense of such datasets, including their integration.

Often, most scientists feel alienated from their original data - or even lost - when their data is subjected to advanced analysis. Here, my role is to ensure a full understanding of the analytical concepts as well as the biological conclusions.
